Are you committed to yourself enough?

Updated: Jan 4, 2025

I woke up this morning not feeling up to my daily morning routine, but just when I was about relaxing, I remembered that you don't develop discipline that way. You have to do what you have to do whether you feel like it or not. That's true discipline.

However, there's another aspect of discipline that I want to call your mind to today- the discipline to respect & be committed to your personal work.

A lot of times, we're very committed to other people's assignment. Your boss or client gives you something to do and you rush to do it immediately. You even spend late nights working on that particular task.

But when it comes to your own work, for instance, I will write 6 pages of my article today, I will draft a Business Plan for the business I want to launch in August, I will run Ads for my business today;

you become laid back.

When are you going to start seeing yourself as a 'project'. When will you start paying the same attention to your self-inspired tasks as you do to your boss?

Because guess what?

You're your most important project and you're here for some unique assignments. Let me put this in plain speak- beyond what you do for your boss, you're meant to deliver something truly unique to generations beyond you.

TD Jakes puts it this way: Never stop branding yourself while you work for others.

Now this is not about running off to start something before its time or becoming insubordinate to your bosses at work. Rather it's about committing to the time & focus required to achieve your personal goals.

And it doesn't have to be complicated things. It can be concerning the simplest things such as 'committing 10mins a day to read a book' that will make you become a better person and a better contributor to society, because best gift you can give the world is the gift of a valuable, happy you. And you won't be truly happy if you keep procrastinating and skipping your personal goals.

So, rise up and take your life seriously.
