Why you shouldn't understand everything

Updated: Jan 4, 2025

Although it is normal for us to seek to understand everything happening in our lives, sometimes we don't need to. I'll tell you why I said so.

Recently, at my place of work, a client received a bill of over £500 and was curious to understand why we charged them that much. I politely told them we couldn't give a breakdown in that sense, because we use a complex process to arrive at the bill. However, the client insisted and wouldn't leave our office So, I obliged.

After giving them the breakdown, they became more confused than ever and even mixed things up. At the end of the day, they left the office with a sigh, saying 'this was a complete waste of time!'.

This scenario made me remember one of my previous relationships where I put up my best behavior, yet the relationship didn't work out. I tried to understand what went wrong, but the more I tried, the more I understood that we're not supposed to understand everything.

A song writer says 'when I trust you, I don't need to understand'. When we trust God we don't need to understand everything that's happening in our lives., because if God begins to give us the details, they maybe to complex for our mind to take.

A scripture comes to mind concerning this:

I'm content to not pursue matters that are over my head,

such as your complex mysteries and wonders

that I am not yet ready to understand.

(Psalm 131:1b TPT)

Be content with mystery. Learn to trust God and rest in Him. He knows what's best for you and He knows what He's doing in your life. You'll not be disappointed for choosing to trust even when you don't fully understand.
