I once had a friend who was chubby but later lost weight. When she got married, I thought she would become fat again, but to my utmost surprise, she remained slim even after delivery of many children.
Similarly, I was once very fat as a child. But when I went to the boarding school, I became thin. As I grew into a teenager, I added weight again and remained like that until I came to the UK for my masters program. Some people expected me to add weight, so much so that, my cousin sent a text message advising me to be careful of what I eat here (to minimize burgers and co). But to the surprise of everyone, I am now slimmer and fit than I was in previous years. The first time I achieved a flat stomach was in the UK, where everyone thought I couldn’t. What sponsored this transformation? My mindset!
It is striking to know that our lives aren’t dependent on what our parents, friends, mentors or teachers think, but on what we think about ourselves. In other words, your life is a product of what you’ve been thinking all these years. It’s important for us to begin to think what we want to see in the next 10 years of our lives now. Most importantly, our thoughts should be in sync with what God thinks about us. It’s normal to sometimes lose sight of what God thinks due to the difficult circumstances of life, but always ask God for grace to remember His words.
